As you drive up route 101 north from Marin County, you travel through the wide open areas of Sonoma and beyond. It is an area of unspoilt plains and hills. In the hot summer months the vegetation dries out to a lovely wheaten color. The only greens are provided by the dark live oak trees and some small evergreen scrub. It's very much the colors of California in the summertime - beautiful but also a reminder of the ever-present fire hazard.

Jean, I love the way the darks and the tree lead your eye to the mountains and off into this wonderful sky! NICE!
Thanks so much Saundra for the critique.
Jean, Forgive the second comment, but I commented on everyone before I checked my blog...I received the Lemonade Award and have passed it along to you...please check my blog for details...but don't worry...if you are too swamped, just enjoy the link!! Saundra
Saundra thanks so much for thinking I deserve this award. I really appreciate it. I'm going to give some thought to who to pass it on to.
Jean
This is beautiful, Jean. I find the soft colors and loose style of your watercolors very soothing - almost meditative.
ita fresh and loose as expected from you. lovely painting.
Teresa: Thanks for the comments. These are not my usual colors. I was trying something new.
Sanjeev: Thanks. This is a slightly different style which I'm not sure I'll stay with. I do like to experiment though.
One more wonderful landscape with a personal colour sence and atmosphere.
regards
Galina
Thanks Galina
I must say, I'm not quite comfortable with these colors yet. Need to experiment more.
Hi Jean - Just wanted to let you know that I chose The Watercolorist for a blog award. You can pick up your "lemonade" award at my April 4th post!
This is magic Jean. Well done!
Lovely--so atmospheric. I especially love the sky; the warm yellow is lovely!
Jane: Thanks so much. I feel honored to be given this award twice. Saundra nominated me earlier this week also.
Thanks Liz and Laura. Still can't decide whether I like the new colors though.
I am a native Californian and these hills are as home to me...beautifully done!
Thanks Blue Sky Dreaming for the ultimate compliment.
Jean, as always, your landscapes have a wonderful, dreamy, looseness that I just love!
Thanks so much Mary.

Thank you Marjorie
I thought the colors I used helped even though they were new to me.
This one reminds me of west Texas. Nice
I love this Jean. The sky is amazing and yes, those dry colours are beautiful. Hope my comment about your magnificent hibiscus comes through. The window just died on me after posting!
Jeb: thanks so much for your comments. I've never been to west Texas. Maybe one day.
Carol: Thanks so much. I think your comment on the Hibiscus did come through.
