A lot of my fellow bloggers have been painting flowers lately - Spring is in the air. With the temperature in the 80's today, I felt inspired to follow suit. These are yellow Hibiscus which were actually much paler than this in the flesh. I made the mistake of using some opaque yellows I bought, trying to avoid too much of the fading that happens with wet-in-wet watercolors. Used the watercolors a little too strongly, but I liked the result anyway.
I want to thank Elizabeth Pearson who passed on the "Painting With Passion" award to me. I'm honored Liz that you think my work deserves this award.

Jean, This is lovely. So warm! I didn't know that hybiscus came in yellow! I did some in white for my daughter and I think you even saw them...thanks for the burst of summer! We had a blizzard yesterday...I posted some pics...take a look...brrr
Thanks Saundra
Yes, hibiscus do come in yellow - a lot paler than I painted them though. I may attempt this one again although I don't usually have success with a redo.
Jean, this is absolutely beautiful and full of Spring promises.
Thanks Brent

Thanks Liz for the support.
A lovely painting! I like the way the yellow diffuses at the edges, and I think your handling of the vase and shadow are just perfect!
Thanks Laura.
I consider you the master of flower watercolors, so I'm pleased to hear your positive comments.
Lovely spring flowers! Gorgeous watercolor. Simple, but very impressive.

The vibrant color was not intended but I was not unhappy with the result.
