Muir Beach, California

On new year's day my husband, son, daughter-in-law and two grand kids decided to have lunch at a quaint little Tudor style British pub called the Pelican Inn, next to Muir beach, off route one in northern California - just behind these hills. It's a popular stopping place for both locals and tourists. The occasion was to celebrate my son's 40th birthday - he was a new year's child. The menu offered typical British pub fare including bangers and mash, pot pie, beef stewed in beer and great tasting apple cider.

We went for a walk on the beach before lunch. Along with us was the new puppy the grand kids had acquired a few days earlier. A cute little mutt of daschund/labrador mix. Can't wait to see how she turns out. She looks more daschund than labrador right now at just eight weeks old. She loved running in the sand on the beach. I tried to take pictures of her, but because she was the same color as the brown beach sand, the photos didn't really work out.

Colorful hills form a backdrop for Muir beach and I thought they would make a nice watercolor painting. This is my first attempt, and I'm not too pleased with it. Need to try this one again.

Jean, this is a very successful watercolor. It has the same quality that runs through all your paintings - a sense of peacefulness.

Thanks so much Lisa
I just felt it did not have enough interest. I am going to have another crack at this and will post the second try when it's done.

Jean this is lovely. I so admire anyone who can work wet-in-wet successfully - in your last post you pay a lot of attention to your colour mixing - maybe that's why you get such beautiful colour blending.

Jean,
I love the colour blends in this one. Very subtle.
I have posted a link to my demo on WC for my wet in wet painting posted with my blog post 'the grief of letting go' on yesterday's blog entry.
Just wanted to let you know as you expressed interest about the abstraction of the piece..

Thanks Maggie
I really appreciate your comments, and will definitely checkout your demo. I need more experience achieving the wet-in-wet technique. I have too many failures with it at the moment. Don't know why I missed it when visiting your blog.

What a wonderful day...I've been to that English Pub and it was great, felt like it was the real thing. I so like your story and the watercolor for me speaks of the story. I can't help but see the sand and wonder about the puppy! In that vein...pure success!
